Old Cigarettes in the Couch
by MC Poetry
Old cigarettes in the couch,
Wherefore art thou?
A pack of Benson and Hedges 100′s
Stuffed in between the cushions
Only to slide down into the frame
And equally into oblivion.
No one we know smokes that brand.
When we pulled you out today
After flipping your sanctuary down the hill
You were still mostly intact.
So we smoked you
And, surprisingly,
You were still good.
My friend’s dad says that Waterworld
Was unrealistic because
Cigarettes could never keep that long.
They would go bad and even a
Rugged-ass post-apocalyptic mariner
Like Kevin Costner
Would never smoke them
No matter how cool it made him look.

- Life is like a box of chocolates: you buy it for someone when you don't know what gift to give them. And some of it tastes like shit.
